Autocoach No 178 is one of a batch of 10 trailers built by the Great Western Railway at Swindon in 1930, to a fairly standard GWR design. Internally they had a driving compartment, a combination of bench seats and seating bays with a capacity of 72 seated passengers, a guards' vestibule and small luggage compartment.
